Chill out in Oconomowoc

Oconomowoc – There are reasons all four seasons to spend the weekend in Oconomowoc and this time it’s Chili Fest slated for Saturday, Jan. 31.

Enjoy Wisconsin’s winter in downtown Oconomowoc with this daylong event. Chili Fest is so named not for the chilly temperatures but what will warm you up – homemade chili. Stroll the downtown shops and stop in to see their wares while also taking part in the annual Chili Fest chili contest.

Chili tasting will be offered at approximately 25 participating businesses. Purchase a wristband for $5 or $3 when you donate 2 items to the Oconomowoc Area Food Pantry. A portion of the proceeds support local organization Tricia’s Troops. Then set out to taste the delectable batches of chili around downtown.

After you’ve had your fill of chili and you’re nice and warm from shopping inside, head out to Fowler Lake downtown where you’ll find even more fun.

Families can skate on the ice of Fowler Lake and enjoy music from a DJ. A special visit is also planned from Roscoe the Milwaukee Admirals mascot who will come out to skate. Roscoe will probably also be keeping a close eye on the Third Annual Pond Hockey Tournament.

All are welcome to join the hockey tournament which is a 4-on-4 round robin event for ages 18 and older with beginner and experienced divisions. The event is a first come, first serve tournament, call Kaleb DeVries at (920) 210-9580 to sign up. Deadline to sign up is Jan. 15.

Outside you’ll also find food, a beer tent and other entertainment including ice carvers. Watch how blocks of ice turn into beautiful creations to don the downtown streetscape. You can also check out or play in a snow softball tournament or join an ice fishing clinic.

Plan to spend a fun, wintry day out in Oconomowoc on Saturday, Jan. 31. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit www.downtownoconomowoc.org or find Downtown Oconomowoc on Facebook for more information.
