Celebrate Spring 12th Annual Bayfield in Bloom
Admire over 50,000 blooming daffodils, a vibrant mosaic of roadside lupine and rolling orchards of apple blossoms bursting into rosy color during Bayfield's month-long celebration of spring, the 12th annual Bayfield in Bloom. As the land reawakens from its wintry slumber, participate in a variety of spring-themed events, take advantage of special lodging packages and explore the Bayfield Peninsula in full bloom.
The celebration kicks off on Friday, May 16 with a live broadcast of Wisconsin Public Radio's Garden Talk with Larry Meiller from Bayfield's historic Lakefront Pavilion. Audience members are encouraged to pose their garden-related questions to a panel of experts, which will be featured on-air. The broadcast will take place from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Before and after the broadcast, attendees are invited to the Bayfield in Bloom Garden Expo, also held at the Lakeside Pavilion, from 9:30am to 11:00am and then again after the show until 1pm. Local vendors will be selling live plants, garden-themed wares, books and art. Horticultural experts will also be on hand to answer garden and tree-related questions.
Tour Bayfield's gardens on the weekend of June 7 and 8. On Saturday, local gardeners will open their yards to visitors, welcoming them as guests to explore and gather inspiration for their own projects. There will also be a driving tour of landscaped yards that are visible to the street. Maps will be available online at bayfield.org and also at the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau, 42 S. Broad St., Bayfield.
Watch as history comes to life with the traditional Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony on Sunday, June 15. Beginning at 1pm, commercial fishing boats, tugs, powerboats, sailboats, excursion crafts, kayaks and rowboats will parade through Bayfield's City Harbor. As they pass by the tip of the pier, clergy from the Apostle Islands community grant each vessel a blessing for safe passage and a prosperous season on Lake Superior. The event is free and open to the public.
During Bayfield in Bloom, area orchards invite visitors to view the apple blossoms and many offer special sales on perennial and annual plants at their onsite markets. Savor the spring harvest of the Chequamegon Bay at one of Bayfield's gourmet eateries, with carefully crafted their menus taking advantage of the freshest local spring produce.
Ongoing events throughout Bayfield in Bloom include: Hauser's Red Barn Plant Sale (May 1 - May 26), wine tastings at Bayfield Winery and All Sisters Winery, daily trips between Madeline Island and Bayfield by the Madeline Island Ferry Line, scenic cruises on the Apostle Islands Cruise Line (begins May 17) and Bayfield Ghost and History Walks (begins May 30).
