ABOUT US

Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce

Nestled on the south shore of Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay, the City of Ashland boasts a unique mix of historic charm and modern convenience.  Ashland is a natural starting point for both the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and southern Ashland County, home to Copper Falls State Park, Saint Peter's Dome and Morgan Falls.  This historic city spreads out along U.S. Hwy. 2, embracing the shores of Chequamegon Bay and the greatest of the Great Lakes -- Lake Superior.

Ashland offers endless waterfront activities, including hiking & biking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and camping.  There are several beaches that afford a view of the pristine waters of the big blue lake.  The Lake Superior Waterfront Trail is a continuous trail linking Maslowski Beach on the west to Bayview Park & Beach on the east.  Ashland is also home to a full-service 121-slip marina, conveniently located in the center of town.

The community’s pride in its rich history is evident in its 17 vibrant murals highlighting a particular aspect of Ashland’s colorful past, depicting subjects ranging from the city’s lumberjacks and military veterans to its railroads, storefronts and former massive ore dock.  Since 2005, Ashland has been known as the “Historic Mural Capital of Wisconsin,” making the city a year-round public art destination.

Known for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing, Ashland offers four seasons of fishing in which anglers will snag trout, salmon, walleye, bass, northern pike and perch, to name a few. Paddlers will discover endless waters to explore and bicyclists can choose from dozens of scenic trails.  Golfers will enjoy superb greens with fantastic pastoral landscapes and lake views.  With year-round fun on the itinerary, Ashland is the perfect destination for avid boaters, motorcyclists and snowmobilers, as well as ATV and skiing enthusiasts.

As the commercial hub of the Chequamegon Bay region, Ashland is proud to provide visitors with a variety of unique shops and restaurants sure to please everyone.  For your next adventure, explore our inviting shops, galleries and specialty stores where you’ll find everything from local delicacies and gourmet delights, to outdoor gear, vintage clothing and fine art.  Searching for that perfect gift for someone special?  You'll find so many intriguing possibilities as you stroll through Ashland’s historic Main Street district.
